Eilgibility Criteria
- For the position related to Mining Engineering, a degree is required.
- Minimum 60% marks are necessary in this degree.
- For the position associated with Civil Engineering, candidates should have a degree in Civil Engineering or related combinations.
- Combinations can include Civil with Architecture or Structural Engineering, among others.
Civil
- A minimum of 60% marks is required for a degree in Civil Engineering.
- The degree must be from a University/Institute recognized by the appropriate statutory authority in India and should be a regular full-time course.
Geology
- A minimum of 60% marks is required for an M.Sc. or M.Tech. The degree should be in Geology, Applied Geology, Geophysics, or Applied Geophysics.
- The degree must be from a University/Institute recognized by the appropriate statutory authority in India and should be a regular full-time course.
Notes
- Degrees in Mining, Civil, M.Sc., or M.Tech. in Geology or Applied Geology/Geophysics or Applied Geophysics must be from a University/Institute recognized by the appropriate statutory authority in India and should be of a regular full-time course.
- General (UR), OBC (Non-Creamy Layer), and Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) category candidates must achieve a minimum qualifying mark of 60%.
- For SC, ST, and Persons with Benchmark Disability (PwBD) candidates, there is a relaxation of 5% in the minimum qualifying marks, i.e., 55%.
- If using CGPA/GPA, candidates must attach a conversion percentage certificate issued by their University/Institute without fail.
Age Limit
- The maximum age for candidates is 30 years as of 1st August 2023.
- To be eligible, a candidate’s date of birth must fall within the range of not earlier than 2nd August 1993 and not later than 1st August 2003 (both dates inclusive).
Age Relaxation
- SC and ST candidates have a age relaxation of 5 years.
- OBC candidates have a age relaxation of 3 years.
- Persons with Disabilities (PwD) can avail a relaxation of 10 years.
- Ex-Servicemen (ESM) can deduct the military service rendered from their actual age, with a maximum relaxation of 5 years.
- For other categories, age relaxations will be as per the Government Rules.

Selection Process
- Eligible candidates are must have taken the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE – 2023).
- Candidates will be shortlisted discipline-wise and category-wise in the ratio of 1:3 based on their GATE-2023 Scores/Marks and requirements.
- In case of a tie in GATE Score, the following norms will be followed to finalize the merit panel:
- Applicants with higher percentage marks/CGPA in the minimum eligible qualification will be placed higher in the merit list.
- If a tie still exists, the older applicant will be placed higher in the merit list.
- The final merit list for each discipline will be determined based on the GATE-2023 Scores/Marks.
- GATE Scores/Marks from 2023 will be valid, and scores from prior or subsequent years will not be considered.
- The final list of selected candidates for the vacancies will be posted on the CIL website.
- Candidates will be informed about document verification (DV) and initial Medical Examination (IME) on the CIL website and their registered E-mail ID.
Application Fee
- SC/ST/PwBD/Employees of Coal India Limited and its Subsidiaries are exempted from paying the application fee.
- For all other candidates, the application fee is ₹1,000/- plus applicable GST, totaling ₹1,180/-.
